The Story

The Nebelung is a longhaired version of the Russian Blue — produced when a domestic shorthair with Russian Blue ancestry produced longhaired blue kittens. Breeder Cora Cobb recognised the beauty of these kittens and developed them as a new breed. "Nebelung" is German for "creature of the mist" — referring to the cat's ethereal blue-grey, silver-tipped appearance. The breed has the same personality as the Russian Blue — gentle, reserved with strangers, and deeply loyal to family — but with a flowing, silky medium-length coat.

Fun Facts

01

"Nebelung" is German for "creature of the mist" — the name perfectly captures the ethereal, silvery quality of the blue coat with its silver tipping that seems to shimmer like mist.

02

The Nebelung produces significantly lower levels of Fel d 1 allergen than most cat breeds — sharing this characteristic with the Russian Blue, making it one of the better options for mild cat allergy sufferers who prefer longhaired cats.
