The Story
The Scottish Straight is the straight-eared sibling of the Scottish Fold — both breeds carry the same genetic background and body type, but the Scottish Straight does not express the ear-folding mutation. Because the Scottish Fold's fold gene is dominant and potentially harmful when homozygous, responsible breeders always cross a Fold with a Straight — producing litters of approximately 50% Folds and 50% Straights. The Straight-eared kittens share the Scottish Fold's calm, gentle personality and distinctive round appearance but do not carry the osteochondrodysplasia health risk associated with the fold gene in Fold-to-Fold pairings. In ethical Scottish Fold breeding programmes, the Straight is an essential and valued part of the breeding population.

Identical to the Scottish Fold in body type — large, round head with full cheeks, large round eyes, compact well-muscled body, and dense plush coat. The only difference is the ears — the Scottish Straight has normal, upright, slightly forward-facing ears rather than the folded ears of the Fold.

Care & Wellness
Professional Care Protocol
- •Same as Scottish Fold — weekly brushing, regular dental care. The Scottish Straight does not carry the osteochondrodysplasia risk of the Fold if it is a non-carrier of the fold gene (fd/fd genotype). However, some Straights from Fold-Straight pairings may carry one fold gene (Fd/fd) and can still develop mild joint issues.
Nutrition Notes
Straight-eared kittens from Scottish Fold litters. NO osteochondrodysplasia (the fold gene causes the disease). Completely healthy. Same personality as Fold without the health issues.

Fun Facts
The Scottish Straight is essential to ethical Scottish Fold breeding — because Fold-to-Fold matings produce kittens with severe joint disease, responsible breeders always use a Straight as one parent. Scottish Straight cats are the ethical backbone of the Scottish Fold breeding programme.
A litter from a Fold × Straight pairing will contain approximately equal numbers of Fold and Straight kittens — the Straight kittens are fully healthy and make excellent pets without any of the Fold's associated health concerns.
