The Story

The Thai Blue Point is the blue-pointed variety of the Thai (traditional Siamese) — a blue-grey pointed colourpoint cat with the rounder, more moderate head of the traditional Siamese rather than the extreme wedge of the modern show Siamese. Blue pointing is produced by the dilute gene acting on the seal gene, creating the characteristic cool blue-grey colouration of the points against a pale, bluish-white body. The Thai Blue Point shares all the personality characteristics of the Thai (and by extension, the Siamese) — highly vocal, social, and demanding — but with the more moderate facial structure that makes the traditional type healthier overall.

Fun Facts

01

The blue point is described in the ancient Thai manuscript Tamra Maew as the "Winged Cat" or "Butterfly Cat" — the cool blue-grey pointing against the pale body was considered one of the most auspicious colour combinations.

02

Blue-point Siamese were the second colour of Siamese to be recognised after the original seal point — a pair of blue-point Siamese were exhibited at a British cat show in 1896, just over a decade after the first seal points arrived in Britain.
