The Story

The Schillerstövare is a Swedish scent hound named after Per Schiller, a Swedish farmer who exhibited two dogs (Tamburini and Ralla) at the first Swedish dog show in 1886 — both won their classes and became the foundation of the breed. It is one of three similar Swedish stövare breeds (alongside the Hamiltonstövare and Smålandsstövare) that differ primarily in the pattern and extent of their black saddle marking. The Schiller has the largest, most extensive black saddle of the three. It hunts solo in deep snow conditions where its speed and energy are advantageous.
