The Story

The Pomsky is a cross between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky — a cross that requires artificial insemination since the size difference between the two breeds prevents natural mating. The breed is popular on social media for its miniature-Husky appearance — the goal is a small dog with the Husky's striking coat and blue-eyed appearance. However, Pomskies are highly variable — they can look more like Pomeranians or more like small Huskies, and temperament inherits the Husky's stubbornness and vocality along with the Pomeranian's boldness. The shedding is significant — both parent breeds shed heavily.

Temperament & Personality

Energetic, vocal, and intelligent — the Pomsky combines Pomeranian boldness with Husky stubbornness and energy. Can be challenging to train due to the independent streak from both parents. Loyal and affectionate with family.

Nutrition Notes

Pomeranian × Husky. Size EXTREMELY unpredictable (3-15 kg). Zinc-responsive dermatosis from Husky side. Dental disease if Pom-sized. Collapsing trachea if Pom-sized.

Fun Facts

01

The Pomsky requires artificial insemination to produce — the size difference between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky makes natural mating impossible. The Husky female must be the mother (to carry the litter safely), and Pomeranian sperm is used via AI.

02

Pomskies became a social media sensation in 2012 after a viral photo of what appeared to be a tiny Husky was actually a Finnish Spitz or other small breed — the image generated enormous demand for a "miniature Husky" and breeders began actively producing Pomskies to meet the demand.
