The Story
The Large Münsterländer is essentially a black-and-white German Longhaired Pointer — it was developed when the German Longhaired Pointer breed standard was changed to exclude black-and-white colouring in 1919 (the original standard had allowed all colours). Breeders who had been working with the black-and-white lines refused to abandon their dogs and formed the Large Münsterländer club, establishing it as an independent breed. The result is a versatile, elegant gun dog that is always black and white, with a flowing coat and excellent working ability across all hunting disciplines.

Fun Facts
The Large Münsterländer owes its existence to a dispute about coat colour — when the German Longhaired Pointer breed standard was changed in 1919 to exclude black-and-white dogs, the breeders of these dogs simply founded a new breed club rather than giving up their black-and-white lines.
