The Story

The Japanese Terrier is a rare small terrier developed in Japan from imported Smooth Fox Terriers crossed with native Japanese small dogs. Developed primarily in the Nagasaki and Osaka regions in the 17th–19th centuries, the breed became a refined companion dog. It is very rare even within Japan. The distinctive colouration — black and tan head on a white body — makes it immediately recognisable. Despite its small size it retains genuine terrier energy and curiosity.
