The Story
The Halden Hound (Haldenstøver) is Norway's largest native hound — named after the town of Halden in the border region between Norway and Sweden. Developed from English Foxhound crosses with Norwegian hounds to produce a larger, faster hound for hunting hare across the open border landscape. The Halden is one of Norway's three native scenthounds (alongside the Dunker and Hygenhund) and is the least common of the three even within Norway. It has the most English-influenced conformation of the three.
