The Story
The East Siberian Laika is the largest of the four Russian Laika breeds — a versatile hunting dog from eastern Siberia used by the indigenous peoples of the Yakutia and Evenki regions for hunting everything from sable and squirrel to bear, wild boar, and moose. It is more cosmopolitan in colouring than the West Siberian or Russian-European Laikas, accepting many colour combinations. Like all Laikas, it bays its prey until the hunter arrives. It is also used for sled pulling. The Laika type is one of the most primitive domestic dog lineages.

Fun Facts
The East Siberian Laika is used by the indigenous Evenki reindeer herders of Siberia not just for hunting but also for sled pulling — a dual-purpose role that has shaped its more substantial build compared to the leaner hunting-specialist West Siberian Laika.
