The Story
The Brittany is the most popular bird dog in France and consistently among the top field-trial dogs in the United States. Compact, energetic, and versatile, the Brittany combines spaniel-like close hunting with setter-like pointing ability — it both flushes and points game, making it a uniquely complete bird dog. Named for the Brittany region of northwestern France where it was developed, the breed is known for its exuberant, cheerful personality that is as suitable for family life as for serious fieldwork. They are athletic, sensitive, and trainable to an exceptionally high standard.

Temperament & Personality
Brittanies are enthusiastic, responsive, and deeply people-oriented. Unlike some sporting breeds, they can thrive in suburban settings if given adequate daily exercise. They are sensitive and respond extremely well to positive training. Their high energy and need for mental engagement means they are not suited to sedentary households. They are one of the most trainable of all sporting breeds.

Fun Facts
The Brittany wins more AKC dual championships (both conformation show and field trial) than any other breed — a testament to their success as both beautiful and functional working dogs.
The name "Brittany Spaniel" was changed to simply "Brittany" by the AKC in 1982 — the breed hunts more like a setter or pointer than a spaniel and the name was considered misleading.
Brittanies are the only bird dog breed that can be considered truly dual-purpose without compromise — they are equally capable in the show ring and the field.
