The Story
The Bouvier des Ardennes is a rough-coated Belgian cattle and herding dog from the Ardennes forest region — related to but distinct from the more famous Bouvier des Flandres. A hardy, energetic working dog developed to herd cattle through the dense forests and rough terrain of the Ardennes, the breed nearly disappeared and was rebuilt in the late 20th century. It remains rare outside Belgium. The rough, wiry coat provides protection from the wet, cold climate of the Ardennes.
