The Story

The Segugio Maremmano is a regional Italian scent hound from the Maremma coastal plain of Tuscany — a related but distinct breed from the more widespread Segugio Italiano. It is heavier, more substantial, and more suited to the wild boar and deer hunting that characterises the hunting tradition of the Maremma region. The breed is in the process of formal FCI recognition through the ENCI (Italian kennel club). Rare outside central Italy.
