The Story

The Chart Polski (Polish Greyhound) is one of the most ancient Eastern European sighthounds — a large, powerful coursing dog used by Polish nobility for centuries to hunt hare, fox, and wolf on the open Polish plains. Unlike most sighthounds, the Chart Polski has a notably more robust, powerful build and a denser, slightly rougher coat than the typical Mediterranean sighthound — reflecting the demands of hunting in the harsh Polish climate. It nearly went extinct under Communist rule in Poland when noblemen's dogs fell out of favour. Dedicated Polish breeders rebuilt the breed.

Fun Facts

01

The Chart Polski nearly went extinct under Communist rule in Poland — the breed's association with the Polish nobility made it ideologically suspect, and dedicated enthusiasts had to maintain the breed covertly. After the fall of Communism in 1989, the breed's reconstruction became possible.
